Judges & Gunners: help

Two lists, two owners

Field trial judges is ESSFTA's own list. The AKC does not license spaniel field trial judges; ESSFTA qualifies them (the apprentice program, and the rule on all-age stakes judged before a judge stands alone). The list carries each judge's apprentice date (or "Grandfathered" for judges approved before the program), the Open and Amateur stakes judged, and the most recent stake judged per ESSFTA's records. Judges the club has marked as no longer judging are not shown.

Where the same judge is in the AKC Judges Directory's "Field Trial Spaniels" category, the AKC columns show the directory's approval date, status, championship and minor stakes judged, and the year last judged. That category is not complete: many active ESSFTA judges are not in it, so a blank AKC column says nothing about the judge.

Hunt test judges are the AKC-approved "Hunting Test Spaniels" judges, read from the AKC Judges Directory on the first of each month and replaced whole. Junior, Senior and Master are tests judged; the seminar date is the last AKC judges' seminar the directory records.

Using a list

  • State and judged in the last N years narrow the rows; Apply reloads the page, so a link keeps the filters.
  • The search box narrows the rows shown as you type (name, city, judge number).
  • Click a column heading to sort; click again to reverse.
  • CSV downloads the rows shown with the same columns. Print opens a plain page for the printer.
  • Every list has a JSON feed (.json) and can be framed in WordPress from Manage › Embeds.

Gunners

AKC Field Trial Rules for Spaniels, chapter 1 section 5, require every gunner at an English Springer Spaniel trial to have passed an ESSFTA Gunning Seminar, and Gun Captains to be graduates of the ESSFTA Field Trial Gunning Program. ESSFTA keeps the list: G qualified gun captain, Q qualified gunner, P partially qualified gunner, N not qualified. Each entry shows the interclub, the latest seminar on record, and how many seminars are recorded. Hunt tests have no gunner list, so there is one list. An entry marked unconfirmed has not been re-verified by the club since the list was compiled; check before relying on it. Gunners marked no longer gunning are not shown.

Contact details

Phone numbers and email addresses are shown so a club can ask a judge or gunner whether they are available: phones are tap-to-call links and emails open your mail program. Hunt test judges' details are the ones the AKC directory publishes for show-giving clubs. A person who asked not to be listed reads "Contact via ESSFTA": ask the club. Street addresses are never shown.
